Spencer’s: What do you like best about outrageous Christmas sweaters and Spencer’s in particular?
Ashley: Spencer’s outrageous Christmas sweaters are great because they’re a conversation starter. They capture your attention because of how out there they are, but they’re done in a way that’s cute to wear. For instance, this one is really sparkly, which I love, but it also has some balls and things which you can play with. It’s always interesting when you incorporate all those different aspects into a piece of clothing.
Spencer’s: How do you feel when you’re wearing the sweater?
Ashley: I feel ballsy.
Spencer’s: Why did you pick these five ugly Christmas sweater?
Ashley: My favorite Spencer’s ugly Christmas sweater has a deer on it and it says Dat Ass Doe. And it’s just really funny because I’m always commented on my asset and for that to play a huge part in the Christmas sweater while remaining festive; it’s kind of cool to incorporate the two together. And it’s also a fancy way to show off my derriere.
Spencer’s: Do you get comments when you’re wearing ugly Christmas sweaters?
Ashley: I get really interesting comments. Like I said before, it’s a really good way to start a conversation. It’s a fun way to capture someone’s attention and be able to make them laugh.
Spencer’s: Which friends or family members would you most want to give an ugly Christmas sweater and is there anyone you wouldn’t give an ugly Christmas sweater to?
Ashley: The great thing about the Spencer’s ugly Christmas sweaters is that you can gift them to all different people. There’s a whole slew of them. There are some really funny ones, there are outrageous ones, and then there are X-rated ones—those are for your good friends. There are perfect ones for my mother-in-law and she would have a field day with them, but then there’s Tits the Season, which I would probably give to one of my best friends who just got a boob job.
Spencer’s: What do you like about the idea of ugly Christmas sweaters in general?
Ashley: The great thing about ugly Christmas sweaters is that you can get someone to blush, you can get someone to want to start a conversation with you because of it, you can make someone laugh. You can bring out all these really positive emotions in someone just from an article of clothing.
Having a really cool, unique Christmas sweater, you’ll be guaranteed that no one will have the same outfit as you, which is always a plus. But it’s also cool just because you’re probably not going to have anything like it in your closet. It’s definitely one of a kind.
Spencer’s: What do you like best about Christmas as a holiday?
Ashley: Christmas as a holiday has always been about family and it’s so close to my heart because I don’t really get a lot of time with family. I’m always working, I’m always traveling. I’m never in the same place for too long. During that span of Christmas and New Year’s and Thanksgiving the month before, it’s really nice to have that downtime and focus on family and puppies and all the love and cuddles. That’s by far the best part of the whole holiday season.
Spencer’s: What’s your favorite Christmas memory?
Ashley: My favorite Christmas memory is probably from when I was a kid and my mom used to have Christmas parties at our house growing up. The whole family was there. My grandparents would come. Our house had a lot of stairs; it was an effort because they were older. They would stay three days and it was a whole weekend or three-day week of spending time with family and having Nana’s home-cooked meatballs. All the good stuff. I miss that a lot.
Spencer’s: What are your favorite Christmas or wintertime activities that you only do at that time of the year?
Ashley: I hibernate during the winter. I really do. It’s nice because like I said before, I’m always working, I’m always traveling, so during that span of time I get to actually get a full eight hours of sleep. That sounds really boring, but you don’t understand the difference a full eight hours of sleep will get you, so that’s something I really appreciate during the wintertime.
Spencer’s: The holidays can be fun but they can also be stressful. How do you think ugly Christmas sweaters can help make the holidays less stressful and more relaxing?
Ashley: Ugly Christmas sweaters can help with the whole stress of the holiday season and gift giving because it helps break the ice It helps you laugh and forget about that moment of “what am I going to get this person?” A lot of people tend to forget that ugly Christmas sweaters exist, that they can bring joy. Think about it—you’re all together, hanging out with your family around the Christmas tree and you open up a box and it’s all about naughty, nice, drunk. It’s a funny Christmas sweater. It’s a great gift. It’s a nice way to smooth over all the stress.
Spencer’s: What do you like about the Christmas sweater with ornaments that you’re wearing?
Ashley: I thought it might be itchy, but it’s not itchy at all. It’s soft. I kind of want to touch myself. It’s lined nicely so it doesn’t come through.
Spencer’s: Is there anything else about Christmas sweaters that makes them different from wearing generally festive sweaters?
Ashley: There’s all different aspects of Christmas sweaters. Spencer’s offers this great array of options, whether you want one to light up or you want one to glitter or you want one to interact with. There’s literally one where it has mittens on the boobs and you throw your hands in them. It depends how outrageous you want to be and the statement you want to make.
Spencer’s: How do you and Travis usually celebrate Christmas together?
Travis: I decorate the whole house. I do what she tells me to.
Ashley: Last year the tree was my idea, and the black balls were also my idea.
Travis: Because you knew I’d like them.
Ashley: But I would have had rose gold balls. This year we’re actually hiring a Christmas decorator because I want to start doing Christmas parties. That was my favorite thing as a kid so know that I’m cruising into my late twenties I want to start an adult thing.
