Heard of the ACLU but not sure what they do? Learn more about this powerful organization, which was founded 100 years ago in 1920, has over 1.5 million members, and addresses important issues including human rights. Their mission statement reads: “The ACLU dares to create a more perfect union — beyond one person, party, or side. We fight to advance and defend civil liberties and civil rights including immigrants’ rights, criminal justice reform, LGBTQ rights, free speech, voting rights and reproductive freedom.”

To help our customers understand what the organization works on, Danielle Silber, ACLU’s director of strategic partnerships, said, “The ACLU is committed to pushing our newly elected political leaders to prioritize and expand on civil rights and civil liberties, including the new Biden administration. We will hold the new administration accountable to build on the progress we’ve made, and the progress that the people demand, just as we did the last administration and just like we will do the next. Specifically, we are working to engage the public to move forward an intersectional agenda for racial justice. This work will be centered around fundamentals to address the impacts of systemic racism in America and tackle such issues as expanding voting rights, providing reparations, and ensuring criminal legal reform and economic justice.”

Silber expressed gratitude for Spencer’s involvement in advancing these worthy causes, saying, “We also know that we cannot make sustainable change if we do not also change culture, and we are heartened by the efforts of Spencer’s to champion the ACLU’s to their employees, associates, and the whole Spencer’s family.”

So as you head into the holiday weekend, we wish you happy saving, shopping, and giving! If you can give to the ACLU in any amount, your donation will be greatly appreciated, and matched by Spencer’s up to $100,000.
