Happy 626 Day! If you haven’t seen the 2002 Disney film Lilo & Stitch, then it looks like you need to plan a movie night.

The story follows six-year-old Lilo Pelekai, a Hawaiian girl whose life is suddenly and unexpectedly made much more interesting with the addition of a little blue alien named Stitch. Despite Stitch’s chaotic behavior, Lilo refuses to give up on him. The duo reminds us of the importance of family or ohana.

We celebrate 626 Day on June 26th for a very specific reason! Before he was Stitch, the indestructible alien was named Experiment 626. Get it? 6-2-6, or June 26th. When he first lands on Earth, Lilo thinks he’s a puppy who just happens to bring destruction wherever he goes.

We know why we celebrate 626 Day on June 26th, but why does this little blue creature deserve its own international holiday? In short, Stitch is really popular with fans. Following the movie’s debut, fans eagerly shared paintings, drawings, and digital renderings of their own Stitch artwork. June 26th was declared an international day of appreciation for Stitch and all things Stitch-inspired.
