With 4/20 coming up, we wanted to let you know that stars are really just like the rest of us by sharing some celebrities who’ve been open about being fans of weed. Let these bold-face names spark your interest in your favorite plant.

Seth Rogen

Actor Seth Rogen has been one of the most vocal celebrities when it comes to how much he loves weed, from starting his own cannabis company, Houseplant, to getting high before seeing Adele’s intimate concert. He told New York magazine that he even acts and directs while stoned, and said weed is “just a tool we use to make our experience more palatable, and some people need those tools a lot more than others. For me, it’s like shoes. For you, it might be like sunglasses. Not everyone’s the same. If someone doesn’t need to smoke weed? Great. It’s the same as someone telling me they don’t wear glasses. ‘Mazel tov! You don’t wear glasses. I do!’”

Snoop Dogg

Rapper Snoop Dogg is also one of the most pro-pot celebrities who’s practically synonymous with smoking it. He told Esquire in 2016, “I feel like marijuana is a real peace conversation–what I mean by that is the form of peace in a conversation. Any time you have a couple of people smoking, they’re never hostile or angry. The area that we’re in now, I’m thankful that they’re trying to make it legalized because, with alcohol and tobacco, you see all the tragedies that have happened with that. I’m glad that we can see something different. As far as me being on the forefront and pushing, for a long time I was on the wrong side and now I’m on the right side.” When he starred with his friend Martha Stewart on the VH1 cooking show Martha & Snoop’s Potluck Dinner Party, she told The Hollywood Reporter, “I get kind of high from secondary smoke. I’m not a smoker myself, but the smoke is quite thick around the set.” He also runs the website Merry Jane, has his own line, Leafs by Snoop, and has even advocated for the legalization of marijuana.

Willie Nelson

Willie Nelson is another celebrity whose image is completely cemented as a fan of pot, which he’s been open about for decades. Willie Nelson also has his own cannabis company, Willie’s Reserves, where he’s CTO (chief testing officer). Of smoking pot in Amsterdam with Snoop Dogg, Nelson told The Daily Beast: “I called Snoop and I said, “Hey buddy, you gotta come over here. This is where it’s at!” So he came over and we hit every bar, every smoke place in Amsterdam. We had a helluva time.” Although Nelson said he stopped smoking in December 2019 to protect his lungs, he’s still, as Rolling Stone has called him, “America’s most legendary stoner.”

Miley Cyrus

Miley Cyrus once told Jimmy Kimmel that weed is “the most magical, amazing thing” and called it “my first and true love.” Miley even smoked a joint at the 2013 MTV Europe Music Awards. She has since had an on-and-off relationship with pot and spoke about no longer smoking pot in late 2020, but is still a star who’s helped make pot mainstream.

Rihanna

Rihanna loves smoking pot so much there are roundups of her Instagram post with joints. She has documented her affection for weed and always makes herself look exceedingly glamorous while doing so.

Pete Davidson

Saturday Night Live star and comedian Pete Davidson has worked his love of weed into his standup routine, saying in one set it makes him feel better. “I love smoking weed when I’m driving. It’s my favorite. I don’t mind traffic. It’s like, aw, company. We’re all in this together you guys.”

Ilana Glazer

On their hit comedy Broad City, Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson made female stoners cool—and funny. Both have been open and outspoken about their weed use. When Ilana appeared on Snoop Dogg’s online talk show GGN in 2016, she said when asked about her favorite strain, “In New York, we’re so in the dark about our weed game, that I’m not, like, picky.” She did say she was into whole leaf vaping and “straight blazing.”

Chelsea Handler

Comedian Chelsea Handler told the Denver Post in 2021 that she prefers edibles and that after she cut back on drinking, weed helped her be less angry and proved a positive step in her personal evolution. “I pivoted toward cannabis, which was actually my gateway drug into meditation and it helps me with therapy. It just helps me calm down a lot and soften the edges a lot,” she said.

Wiz Khalifa

Wiz Khalifa has never been shy about his passion for smoking weed. The popular hip hop artist told High Times in 2016 that he smokes pot “all day” and “I like to get high and be high when I’m places, as opposed to just smoking everywhere like I used to. I prefer indicas—they help me out the most. Some people say they slow you down, but they pick me up.”

Matthew McConaughey

Actor Matthew McConaughey revealed on Jimmy Kimmel Live that Snoop Dogg (yes, he makes a lot of appearances in celebrity weed stories) gave him real weed to smoke instead of a fake joint prop made of oregano on the set of their movie The Beach Bum, which McConaughey didn’t know until after he’d smoked it during an eight-minute scene. “It was the first take of the night, and I didn’t say another word of English, really,” McConaughey said. Snoop said McConaughey rapped for 13 hours straight afterward!
